What is Bisphenol A (BPA) ?
The general thermal paper on the market contains the chemical bisphenol A, an imitation estrogen that can enter the body through the skin. Some studies have pointed out that prolonged exposure to BPA may affect endocrine, such as increased risk of type 2 diabetes or cardiovascular disease. Since BPA is a hormone interferon, excessive exposure to pregnant women can affect fetal development or affect the reproductive system.

Given that the European Union has announced that it will ban the use of thermal paper with 0.02%(mg/kg) or more (by weight) of bisphenol A from January 2020, Taiwan and Japan have also banned the use of thermal paper containing bisphenol A. Therefore, many Hong Kong brand chain stores have started to switch to BPA-free thermal paper.
